Description: Torrevieja celebrates Saint John’s Day with fireworks and bonfires, just on a smaller scale. The pagan origins of the ‘Hogueras de San Juan’ are all to do with the triumph of light over darkness. Festive occasion with food, drinks and leaping over flames. Often the custom of swimming in the sea at dawn is practised here as well.
